2011 Events

July 2011 Belgian Air Force Intl. Airshow, Koksijde - Belgium

Day One: July 6th 2011 - 2 PM - 10 PM

Considering “Belgian Airshow Standards” an event of this amplitude hasn’t been seen in Belgium for many years.

The Red Arrows,  The Turkish Stars, a first time performance in Europe by the Saudi Hawks, the USAF Thunderbirds and many solo display teams all gathered in one day.

Special occasion for this great Airshow was the 65th anniversary of the Belgian Air Force. An Airshow in Belgium from 2 till 10 PM that's also something new...

Day Two:July 7th 2011 - 10 AM - 7 PM

I will have to admit that weather conditions where not ideal compared to day one. The Saudi’s, the Red’s, the Thunderbirds and La Patrouille de France (instead of the Turkish Stars) where at the rendezvous. Only seen on day two was the performance of a Dutch Air Force Apache Helicopter. A very nice and day filing program you might say.  But still the organization managed to fall into their old habits again…Mostly in the morning, there they were again…those boring “dead moments” as we call them over here…

May 17th 2011, NATO Tiger Meet 2011, Cambrai - France

Due to the situation in Libia not all NATO Air Forces where fully represented. Maybe it wasn’t that spectacular as it was last year in Kleine Brogel – Belgium, but still, we enjoyed it a lot.

Top of the bill (as far as I’m concerned) was the presence of two Slovakian Air Force Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29’s.

May 13th 2011, Solar Impulse 1st International flight to EBBR

The Solar Impulse is an airplane flying on solar energy. Equipped with 4 electric 10 HP engines, it flies at an average speed of about 70 km/hr.  The Wingspan is 63.40 meters is comparable to an Airbus A330. 11628 solar cells, placed on top of the wings are providing the necessary power. On Friday May 13th 2011 it needed more than 13 hours to fly from Payerne (Switzerland) to Brussels Airport.

Pictures were taken at 9.30 PM which explanes they are pretty dark….A few weeks later the Impulse continued it’s way to the 2011 Salon Du Bourget in Paris.

Spotting at EBBR, Brussels International Airport

Spotting @ BRU hasn't been easy so far in 2011. I believe this must be the worst summer we had since 10 or maybe 15 years. Anyway this album is regularly updated with new pictures of birds taking of or landing at my “home based” airport.
